Goodbye
(2006 / 6:32 / colour / sound)
The music video , which runs for 6 minutes and 32 seconds, titled Goodbye, is based on music by Fan Hung A, an indie band with four members who met at the HKU in 1998, and visuals realized by Anson Mak, an Assistant Professor of Moving Image and Sound Art at the Academy of Visual Arts at Baptist University specializing in experimental ethnographies and digital communities. Uploaded to Youtube on August 12, 2006, the video comes with a brief description: “This is a music video inspired by the Central Star Ferry Pier that is scheduled to be demolished shortly” and a link to a petition by SEE Network. Produced at the beginning of the Star Ferry campaign, the video gained around 4,000 views by the end of Queen’s Pier, a large number during the early days of Youtube. According to the credits at the end, “This work is built on 16mm film archival footage from the 70’s, B&W super 8 film (from my uncle) on Victoria Harbor of 1968, plus my own super 8 film & DV shot in 2006”.
