Artist Su Hui-Yu will work with the Taipei-based new media art collective XTRUX on a virtual residency at the Leave Your Body Minecraft space in May.
About Su Hui-Yu
Su obtained an MFA from Taipei National University of the Arts in 2003 and has remained active in the contemporary art scene ever since. The Taiwanese artist’s works are about exploring the connection between mass media, pop culture, memories of martial law, and the post-colonial history of Taiwan and East Asia.
His work The Glamorous Boys of Tang (1985, Chui Kang-Chien) is also shown in BSN8 Screenings in HK, the UK, and online.
Founded in October 2020, XTRUX is composed of a number of creators who focus on new media art. Recently, it has developed in art creation with elements such as artificial intelligence, metaverse, games, motion capture, sound and light, installation, rave, audio and video. Their creations mainly focus on the interactive relationship between the “virtual world, digital identity, and folk belief”, trying to reshape the relationship between the three in the form of virtual and immersive media.
