Lucie Rachel’s practice is somewhat confessional, working with still and moving image to narrate and navigate recurring themes of domestic relationships, gender and the unspoken. Lucie graduated from Fine Art at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design as one of the Royal Scottish Academy’s New Contemporaries in 2015, recognised for her documentary work observing the complexities of her mother and trans parent’s unusually well documented relationship. Her short film Mother Father (2015) screened at festivals across the UK before featuring in Girls In Film‘s online collection, while her accompanying book is part of the Dundee Artists Book Collection in the University of Dundee’s permanent collection. Shortly after graduating, Lucie directed an award winning short documentary titled ‘Where We Are Now’ (2016) for the Scottish Documentary Institute, which screened across the UK and internationally before being selected by the British Film Institute and the British Council to be part of the FiveFilms4Freedom campaign. Lucie has since worked with Glasgow Film and See Me Scotland on a mental health documentary, a short film for Channel 4 Random Acts, and is now working on a photography project with Fòcas Scotland for the UK – India year of culture. Lucie is currently based in Dundee where she is a resident on the DJCAD Graduate Residency Programme 2017-18 and on the committee of Tin Roof Arts Collective (Dundee Ceramics Workshop).
